Homemade Typography – Authentic Possibilities

Authentic Possibilities

Inspired by the great typographic work I’ve seen on Dribbble by designers such as Michael Spitz, Simon Walker, and Dana Tanamachi among many others I decided to do a month long exercise in handmade typography. This one came by accident when the words “authentic possibilities” came to mind. The short phrase offers so many interpretations that I had to make something out of it.

Vector Basic Training

Over the holiday I picked up Von Glitschka’s awesome book Vector Basic Training: A Systematic Creative Process for Building Precision Vector Artwork (Voices That Matter). I love reading and learning about design. I read an average of 3 design books a month (not including design magazines) and can say with great confidence this is one of the best (if not the best) book about creating vector art on the market. This book should be mandatory for all introductory Adobe Illustrator classes.

This book explores Bézier curve best practices in depth. It is worth every penny purely for this information. In addition, Von Glitschka lets readers in on his process for developing vector art using real client examples and tons of photos along with offering strategies for being your own art director and so much more.

There are a lot of books about digital art on the market but few are written by someone who isn’t just a writer, but a working artist respected by clients and designers. Buy this book!
